IR / X-Ray Spectrometer

Problem:

We were asked to develop an application for an instrument used to monitor and analyze oil wear on board ships, aircraft and for vehicle fleets. The application had to control and process data from 3 different modalities; X-Ray and IR spectrometers and a Viscometer while updating the interface with real-time status and measurement data. Measurement results also had to be saved to a database. The UI had to allow the user to configure the measurement subsystems, monitor system readiness, setup each phase of a measurement, review measurement results, and control a multitude of system parameters. Ease of use and robust operation were critical requirements.

Solution:

To meet these requirements, Bytes By Design developed a Windows CE6 based multi-threaded C# application that acquires spectral and viscometer data from the 3 embedded subsystems, updates the UI, and saves the results to a SQLCE database. The touch-screen UI provides a view of system status, reports and comparisons of measurement results, selection of assets to be tracked, measurement limits and alarms, measurement sequencing, and maintenance functions.

Results:

The new instrument plays a crucial role in the company's corporate stategy.
